Mr Justice Sim left for Dunedin lastevening. Ho "as accompanied by ms secretary, Mr. A. Haggitt. A motion was passed at yesterday's meeting of the Makara County Council, congratulating Council ors L. W mdley, S. Bowler, and H. J. Monoghan on their appointments as Justices of the leant, and placing on record on behalf of the ratepavers, appreciation of the services rendered by the three councillors on public bodies for many years past. TKe esteem in which the late Mr. William Espie, of Seatoun, was held was evidenced by the large attendance at his funeral vesterday morning. Ihe pallbearers were the president and four vice-presidents of the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemens Association, and there was a very large attendance of travellers and. members of the Havel lers’ Club. Those present also included Mr. T. Y. Seddon, M.P., Drs. Gilmer and Morice, and representatives of the Seatoun Bowling Club. The Rev. L. J. Rich officiated at the graveside. A Press Association cablegram reports the death of Mr. H. J. Gerritsen, of the firm of Oetzes and Gerritsen, long established in the provision trade in London, and having offices m Wellington. In the Supreme Court yesterday Mr. John Wilfred Wi\rd was admitted as a solicitor by His Honour Mr Justice bmi, on the motion of Mr. W. I. Maul. At a meeting of the Westport District High School Committee last night it was resolved to congratulate Mr George Aitken, a native of Westport and a pupil of the school, on his selection as captain of the All Black team against the Springboks, to wish him success in today's °niatch, and to have an enlarges photograph of him placed in the school, with a record of his educational and sporting attainments.
