SHELL-SHOCK CASES

THE PROBLEM OF TREATMENT, By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Masterton, August 3. The problem, of how to deal with shellshock cases was brought up by Mr. D. K. Logau at the annual meeting of executive of the Wai.ra.rapa Patriotic Association to-day. He said that men suffering from shell-shock were roaming around the country, drawing money from one patriotic association after another. There should be special institutions for these men. The chairman (Mr. M. Coradine) skid that, in discussing tue question, he wished it to be clearly understood that no reflections were being cast on either the Returned Soldiers' Association, individual cases, or the Government. Men suffering from shell-shock had no control over themselves when the craving possessed them. It,was not their fault, and it should: be the aim of everyone to help them. The Government could not be blamed for the state of affairs. The Returned Soldiers’ Association had done and was doing all it could for these men. Certainly some sort of institution was needed, but what kind no one seemed! to know. It wae mentioned that the Returned Soldiers’ Association had persuaded the authorities to place men in existing institutions, but the results had not been satisfactory.
