AN OPENED POSTCARD
CHARGE AGAINST FORMER POSTMISTRESS. By Telegraph.—Prasi Association. Christchurch, August 8. The Supreme Court was engaged to-day with tho hearing of a charge agflinst Julia Marie Fitzgerald, formerly postmistress at Blackball, of opening a. postcard addressed to a resident, J. Gilmer. The prosecution alleged that Um accused took tho postcard into the telephoneroom, and when she camo out remarked that it was from one of "Jack’s (Gilmer’s) old girls,” who had enclosed a. pound note. She then sealed the postoar’d. primer was informed of the episode bv another employee. At an inquiry held by the Department the accused regretted opening the postcard, but stated she had been in the habit of dealing with Gilmer’s correspondence with his knowledge. The oaee ■was ■qnflnlshed when the Court rose.
