EX-KAISER’S FINANCES
ACCUMULATION OF WEALTH DURING REIGN FLIGHT TO HOLLAND WITH EMPTY PURSE By Telegraph— Press Association— Copyright Berlin, August 1. A book published on behalf of the Prussian Finance Ministry throws some light on tho ex-Kaiser’s finances. Wilhelm saved 180,000 marks in the first year of his reign, and steadily accumulated wealth thereafter. In the first years of the war he saved a million marks annually, but towards the end his expenses exceeded the State allowances. When he abdicated the privy purse contained 50,000,000 marks, of which half was invested in fi.ret-claes industrial shares. Wilhelm never held shares in Krupp’s, though for a time he had a few hundred thousand marks invested in debentures. He was without money when he fled to Holland, and existed on credit until money was sent in December, 1918. Sixty-nine million marks were remitted to him to the end of 1920. chiefly from the sale of personal property. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
MONEY AND PLATE SENT TO DOORN
PALACES LITTLE DAJIAGED BY SPARTACISTS. London, August 1. Heinig’s book relating to tho ex-Kais-er’s finances, points out that, in adaition to money, largo quantities of plat® were. sent to Doorn, including a thousand silver plates, with knives, forks, and Bpoons to match, 360 gilded plates, a collection of enormous epergnes, a case of communion plate; also a silver font, a gift from the Queen of England. ' The book, shows that the damage to palaces done by the Spartacists during the revolution was negligible. Although the revolutionaries requisitioned horses from the Royal stables with which to pull field guns, they punctiliously returned the same. Huge quantities of food wine, and cognac remained untouched throughout the revolutionary occupation of the ’Schloss. The author points out that not a single palace official, many of whom served the Court for a life-time, received a word of acknowledgment or thanks from the ex-Koiser. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
