ALLEGED SHOP LIFTING
FOUR WOMEN CHARGED. From Our Own CorreßDondent.' (Iliarges of shop lifting were preferred against four women at the Palmerston North Police Court on Saturday afternoon, before Mr. A. J. Graham, J.P. Tlie accused, who were arrested about midday, were: Ada Brothers, Nellie Buick, Ada Prouse, and Margaret Conlin. last-named is an elderly woman. Ada Brothers was charged with stealing three aprons, one scarf, three handkerchiefs, four pairs of stockings, and ono roll of ribbon, the property of the Premier Drapery Company, of the value of .£+ 9b. 4d. Senior-Sergeant Fitzpatrick, for the police, asked for a remand until Monday, saying that other charges against accused were pending. She was a single woman. Bail was granted in one ap proved surety of .£lO. Nellie Buick was then charged with stealing half a dozen ladies’ pocket handkerchiefs and one roll of ribbon, of the value of 4s. 4d„ the property of t ll6 Premier Drapery Company. Senior-Ser-goant Fitzpatrick asked for a remand until Monday. This was granted, also bail in one approved surety of £lO. "All the accused belong to one party," said tho senior-sergeant, "and the cases will be fully heard on Monday." Ada Prouse and Margaret Conlm were then jointly charged with stealing eight pairs of socks, the property of D. M. George’s estate, of the value of £1 . j? and wore similarly remanded, the bail in the latter’s case being a personal surety on account of her age. "Other charges against accused are pending,” stated tho senior-sergeant. ''Margaret Conhn is an old-age pensioner.”
