BOXING TOURNEY
At the Town Hall to-night the first bouts of tho local amateur boxing championships will be held. The number of competitors is easily a record, and in consequence a. large number of bouts will require to be contested on each evening if finality is to bi? reached at a reasonable hour on Tuesday. Close on twenty bouts are Bet down for decision saoh evening, and while some competitors may not be able .to fulfil tbeir engagements, it is .not expected that the programme will be got through before 10.30 p.m. The first bout will be at 7.30 p.m. In conformity with the policy observed with past championships-, no box plan has been opened, but intending patrons can obtain tickets for any part of the house, as announced in the advertising columns. To-night fhe referee will be Mr. Earl Stewart, and to-morrow night Mr. Allan Maxwell will act in that capacity. Messrs. Staples and Wood's will act as judges on both nights. At the conclusion of the contests tomorrow night the team to represent Wellington at tho New Zealand championships at Groymouth will bo selected. Mr. E. A. Durwspm, a member of the executive, and tho hon. secretary, Mr. W. G. Talbot, will accompany tho team, which will leave on Monday night.
