\ meetinir of the Eastbourne Boroimh Council was held on Friday, when His Worsen the Mavor, Mr. F. IT. Mather and Oonneiimrs W. Bennett. T. IT. Giles. C. Tj. Green C. A. Marnui’. H. M’Gill. T. M Pilcher, and IT. W. Shortt worn present. A letter was received from the Upper Hutt. Town Board regarding the Mane.aboo newer scheme and inouirinc whether Festbourno Borough Connett would be willing to join in a scheme for the tor▼notion, of p. dow a v board for the ret.ie.ulation of the district in anticipation of power becoming available from Alnn'-a-roa It, was resolved to reply to the totter stating that. Eastbourne would lie nlousml to go into this matter, and t’mt, delegates bad been appointed. Ihe Mavor and the general manager were appointed a sub-committee to attend, as delegates a» v meeting held, and to make general ino.uil*ies into the matter and re-nn-t to tho next, mooting of the eounHl. Tbo Petor.n Motor Ambulance Committee wrote suggesting a scheme for the formation of an efficient ambulance service to meet tile needs of the Itutt Valley and eastern side of the harbour. Tt ws« resolved that in view of the facilities now obtaining in Eastbourne, together with the added fact, that the district is served by a frennmit ferrv service, that the council could not see its way dear to support the proposal. Tn view of tho likelihood oi tne bank overdraft being increased shortly to 7 ner cent it was resolved to maha application to the Minister of Finance for permission to nay 7 ner cent, on any ’over draft that the council may reouire. A draft of tho new by-laws was put before tho meeting and after those had been ooner'illv perused it win resolved that they be placed in tho hands of tho general manager to make arrangement for their gazetting. Mr. V. M. Braund was appointed, under seiil. as ilii'f honorary ranger for the rasthonriie domains. Tho Ferre Board renorted t<> the meeting that the s.s. Duchess was to be nut on the patent elin on Raturday, and ft is expected that she would ho again in commission In a f"w days’ time, when the s.s. Cobar would commence her overhaul. Tn connection with tho overhaul of the Cobar.' It Is just possible that this vessel will liavo to bo re-shoa-thed. in which case the overhaul will be slightly prolonged.
