ANGLO-JAPANESE ALLIANCE
RENEWAL PROSPECTS DISPLEASING TO AMERICA DELICATE AND DIFFICULT SITUATION By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Washington, June 25. It is understood that the United States is not pleased at the prospects of the renewal of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance. However, whether or how such attitude is to be announced- is a matter for conjecture; Tho delicacy and confidential nature cf the situation make expression difficult. However, it is stated authoritatively that the Government does not wish .the impression to go abroad that the United States is unconcerned and uninterested- in the Alliance. On the other hand, should the United States oppose the Alliance, it is -believed that serious antagonism will be aroused in Japan against tho United States. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. CHINA VITALLY AFFECTED Atlantic City, June 25. The Chinese Minister, Mr. Sze, addressing the New York State Bankers’ Association, declared that the AngloJapanese Alliance was a warlike measure, vitally affecting China, but about which China had- not been consulted. The preservation of peace in the East was so supremelv important that China and tho United States ought to have something to say about tho Alliance. Unless they became parties to an agreement, ho could not see how peace in the Far East could endure.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. JAPANESE PAPERS SUPPRESSED FOR DISCUSSING FORBIDDEN TOPIC. Tokio, June 25. Editions of the "Japan Advertiser” and several other newspapers have been suppressed for ciscussing the AngloJapanese Alliance negotiations, mention of which tho Government has prohibit-ed.—Aus.-N.Z.
