RAILWAY OFFICERS

NATIONAL EXECUTIVE OF INSTITUTE. The National Executive of the Railway Officers’ Institute held meetings at tha end of last week, tho president (Mr. J. R. Robertson) occupying tho chair. There were also present: Messrs. C. 11. Bell, J. R. Skinner, A. S. Henderson, A.. M. Longton,-E. W. Barnes, F. E. Hunt, L. Barclay, J. T. F. Fitzgerald, M. J. Forde, and the general secretary (Mr. C. W. Morgan). The decisions arrived at by the Dominion Conference, recently held in Dunedin, were discussed and classified, and it was decided that* arrangements be made for a deputation to wait on tho Acting-Minister of Railways and the General Manager. Arrangements were made for the transfer of the instil from Dunedin to Wolliiigton, which will take place about the beginning of August, and it was decided to take immediately the necessary steps to have the "Advocate,” the official organ 'Of tho institute, printed and published in Wellington. In connection with office accommodation, required by the headquarters’ staff it was decided to purchase a property that had been placeci under offer, and the president and Messrs. Henderson and Longton wore appointed a committee to complete the purchase. Tho question of reorganising the Napier district was dealt with and it was arranged that action in that direction should he taken •forthwith. The unanimous opinion of members was. thaj: the coming conference with the Minister and General Manager would he one of the most important in the history of the institute, and that on its results depended, to a very great extent, the future policy of tho institute. Membcre pointed out that the transfer of the headquarters from Dunedin to Wellington unmistakably indicated that a more vigorous policy was being demanded by the First Division of tho Railway Service, throughout tho Dominion. aiid that, in consequence, the responsibilities of the National Executive had never previously been so great or so exacting.
