LEAGUE FOOTBALL
QUEENSLAND DEFEATS NEW ZEALAND
A POOR EXHIBITION
(Hee. June 19, 5.5 p.m.)
Brisbane, Juno 19.
The. League match Queensland v. New Zealand was won by tho former by 8 points to 3. In the New Zealand team Saunders and Bass replaced M’Elweo and Paki. In tho Queensland team ITauufolder, Ryan, and Kreutzer replaced Fewin, Bath, and Johnson. Otherwise the teams were the same as last Saturday. Tho attendance was 11,606. The weather was fine.
Promptly from a pack near the line Walters crossed over, but Davidson failed to convert for New Zealand. As the outcome of a passing rush, Flanagan farced his way through Now Zealand’s lines and Paten kicked a goal. A fast, strong game followed, but delay was caused by Davidson being outed. When he resumed he was shaky. Polson spurted, but M’Brian smartly intercepted. .Broadfoot shortly after fumbled a pass, and missed a sure try. Davidson grassed Paten, who failed to play tho ball, and a certain try was lost. Lang was clearly the best 'of the backs. Fairly even play followed, no score resulting for nearly thirty minutes. Queensland led at the half-time by 5 points to 3. On resumption of play M'Elwee played for Davidson, who had retired. Lang failed to convert a free kick from halfway. New Zealand was now attacking stronger, though the play was not brilliant. Towards the end play became rough as a result of loose play on the lines. Bennett got over, but Paten missed. Tancred at this stage retired. Lang was the best back on the field, lhe game was generally uninteresting, and a poor exhibition characterised by rough and tumble tactics. —Press Assn.
