OBITUARY

MR. FRANKLIN K. LANE. Vancouver, May 18. The death is announced from Kochester, Minnesota, of Mr. Franklin v. Lane, former Secretary of the Interior — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Mr. Lane was Secretary of the Interior in the Wilson Cabinet from 1913, and resigned office in February, 1920. Shortly afterwards Mr. Lensing, Secretarv of State, resigned. This was <lne to Mr. Tansing calling a Cabinet meeting during President Wilson s illness, and without the latter’s authority. Mr. Lane announced that he was equally responsible with Mr. Lansing for calling (lie meeting. Air. Lane was born in Canada in 1804. He was engaged in ■newspaper work early in life, and was admitted to the Californian Bar in 1889. He became n Senator in 1903.]
