TROTTING

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Alay 11. At a meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association a letter was received from the Forbury Park Trotting Club conveying the following resolution in reply to the board's resolution, regarding starting at the club s meeting: "The committee of the Forbury Park Club deprecate the action of the New Zealand Trotting Association in passing the resolution and are of opinion that the association should be very careful before taking up such an attitude. In this case the starting ut the club’s Spring and Summer Meetings was very good, .and the association ■* statement that a change was made in the system at the latter meeting is incorrect. The assistant appointed at ths Summer Aleeting had no previous experience, and simply performed the duties previously carried out by an experienced steward of the club. The stewards of the club are quite as much concerned and claim to have done as much for the welfare of the sport as members of the Trotting Association, and like the latter are an elective body with quite as much experience." After discussion it was decided that the letter lie on the table. The board discussed in committee the proposals to be brought forward on its behalf at the meeting of the Trotting Conference. One proposal will be that ir nil handicap events the handicapper shall make a distance allowance, and not a time allowance. Another was that In the event of the handicapper not being present at a meeting, the club shall appoint a substitute to do any rehandicapping. It was also decided to urgethat the minimum fine for starting before time bo .£5.
