RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE KARORI CLUB SENIOR CADET COMPETITION
The Karori Rifle Club completed its competition for Senior Cadets last Saturday on the Trentham range, at ranges of 200 and 500 yards, seven shots at each range, when some 19 Cadets turned out. The weather was not as favourable as the previous Saturday, tho light being dull and a fairly strong breeze prevailing. Nevertheless some good shooting resulted. Sergt. S. lune’s 59 being a particularly good performance, considering tho weather conditions, and shooting without slings and over fixed sights. Cadet J. J. Jones was a good second with 55 up. The final result of the two days’ competition produced a very close finish, thore being only 6 points difference between the first four competitors. Cadet J. J. Jones and Sergt. S. Line tied for first place, with HO points each, Cadet I. W. Bertram coming third with 106, and Cpl. C. D. Graham fourth with 104. Three shots were fired at the last range, 500 yards, to decide tho tie. Cadet J. J. Jones proving the winner by the narrow margin of 1 point (Cadet Jones 5 —3 —3 —11), Sergt. S. Line coming second (Sergt. Line, 2—5 —3—10). Sergt. S. Line also won the first of the three cash prizes presented by Deputy-Pres. J. Bertram foe the best scores for the day’s shoot. Cadet J. J. Jones won tho second and Cpl. C. D. Graham the third. Four trophies were donated by members for this competition. Cadet J. J. Jones, winner of the competition, takes first prize (Mr. A. Collins’s trophy, -fil Is.), Sergt. S. Line second prize (Mr. IV. E. Jackson’s Is.), Cadet I. W. Bertram third prize (Mr. A. Caldwell’s trophy, £1 Is.), Cpl. C. D. Graham fourth prize (Mr. H. Preston’s Ids. 6d.). Members took much interest in the competition and felt well repaid for their time and trouble by the keenness shown by tho iboys in the finer points of the sport.
