WAIRARAPA NOTES

At a meeting of the Wairarapa Girls’ Basket Ball Association on Saturday the following officers were elected: —Patroness Mrs. AV. H. Jackson; president, Miss Park; vice-presidents, the heads of associated schools; general secretary and treasurer, Miss Napier; district secretaries: North Wairarapa, Mr. Wimsett, Eketahuna; Central, Miss Brown, Masterton; Miss Atkinson, Lansdowne; South Wairarapa, Miss Mather, Greytown. A vote of thanks was accorded Miss Park, organiser of the association, and others who had assisted the movement. # The Featherston Borough Council received s ix applications for the town clerk vacancy, and have appointed Mr. H. Polls to the position. Mr. G. W. Cobb, of Martinborough, will represent the local Masonic Lodge at the annual meeting in Auckland of the Grand Lodge of Freemasons.

A.- proposal .is afoot in the Wairarapa' to form a P.C.R. Court among the Foresters’ Lodges in the Wairarapa. The Carterton Oddfellows’ Miniature Rille Club on Monday evening commenced competition for the Booth Aggregate Challenge Cup and the Busby trophy. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union nt Carterton on Saturday night a Featherston junior player, who had been reported by the. referee for walking off the ground and passing insulting remarks. when cautioned for questioning the referee’s decisions, was suspended for five years, as it was the offender’s second offence. Two other players who had left the field with the previous player are to appear before the union. A Carterton junior player, who had been reported by the same.referee for striking a player, was stood down for two playing Saturdays. It was decided to replace a £5 ss. trophy to the Wairarapa P. and A. 'Society, which had been won outright. Applications wore, received from various schools in the district for footballs, which are to be supplied. The, amended rules of the New Zealandt Union are to operate ps from Saturday next, and a special meeting of referees is to be held at Carterton during the week to study the amendments.
