RUGBY UNION
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETS. The Executive Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union met last night, Mr. J. Prendevilie presiding. There were also present Messrs. W. Hardham, A. J. Griffiths, E. Perry, H. J. Buck, F. A. Laws, H. Al'Lood, E. Ward, .and J. N. Afillnrd.
A deputation from tho Upper Hutt Club asked the union for a grant from trust moneys held by the latter body in order to purchase new jerseys. It was explained that the purchase of new jerseys was imperative, as the club’s last season colours had had to be given up. Tho amount involved would be about £B. The request was refused, but the club is to be given the opportunity of devising other means for the spending of the cash in hand. It was decided to arrange a fixture between the New Zqaland University team and a Wellington representative team, prior to the departure of tho former team for Australia. It was decided also, on the recommendation of the ’Varsity Club, to play the mptch on Wednesday, Afay 18, at Athletic Park. Certain conditions were agreed on relative to gate receipts. An application from the Petone Club for the reinstatement of A. Smilie, who played in one spell of a League match last season, was referred to the N.Z.R.U. for favourable consideration. The secretary reported that the T mol ' had received an anonymous donation of £lO. This will he expended in such a way as to bon efit injured players. The entries of teams for the season were reported as follows:—Senior, 9; junior, 12; third grade, 19; fourth grade, 17; fifth grade, 19; and sixth grade, 11. Tho teams, number 87. - SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY. The draw for the senior seven-a-side tourney to be played at Athletic lark on Saturday next is as follows:— 2.40 p.m. —Petone B v. Berhampore, Marist B v. Selwyn B. . 255 p .m—Poneke A v. Victoria College B; Poneke B v. Selwyn A. 8.10 p.m. —Oriental v. Hutt; Petone A v. 'Wellington. 3.25 p.m.—Victoria College A v. Slarist A; Athletic v. Petone C. The finals will be played at 4.W p.m.
OPENING SENIOR MATCHES. The draw for the opening of the club competitions on Saturday week is:— Petone v. Berhampore, Athletic Park, No. 1. Poneke v. ’Vareity, Athletic Park, No. 2. Athletic v. Alariet, Lyall Bay. No. 1. Selwyn v. AVellington, Lyall Bay, No. 2. Oriental, a bye.
