A HOLY DAY

COMMEMORATING ANZAC CENOTAPH TO BE ERECTED I THREE MEMORIAL SERVICES The arrangements for the commemoration of Anzac Day (April 25) in Wellington are now complete. The Returned Soldiers’ Association hag arranged for the erection of a temporary cenouaph on. the Lambton Quay frontage of the Parliamentary Grounds, and there at 11 a.m. on Anzac Day a children’s service will be conducted by chaplains representative of the various denominations on lines similar do those of last year, and the public who wish to show respect to those who fought and died in the service of their country in the Great 'War will be given an opportunity of placing floral tributes at the foot of the memorial structure. The service will take place in the presence of the children of the public, secondary, and private schools. . On the Sunday (April 24) a special service is to be held at St. Mark s Church at 3 p.m., which service will be attended by veterans of the Maori and South African wars, and soldiers who took part in the Into war. On Anzac Day, at 3 p.m., a big memorial service will be held in the Town Hall under the auspices of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. The order of thi« service will be as follows --Chopin’s "Funeral March" by the Salvation Army Band; hymn, "Oh, God Our Help in Ages Past”; prayer by a Salvation Army chaplain; reading from the Scriptures by a Presbyterian chaplain; hymn, “‘Lest We Forget”; address by Canon Feilden Taylor; prayer by Rev. H. Van Staveren; hymn, “Lead, Kindly Light”;: dead march in “Saul,” Salvation Army Band; the “Last Post”; solo, “O Rest in the Lord”; benediction by Canon Feilden Taylor; National Anthem. Nothing in the way of a celebration or merry-making is to be sanctioned. As far as is possible Anzac Day is to be regarded by the whole community as * holy day- . A year ago a proposition was put forward for the erection of a permanenft cenotaph "in Wellington, meetings, yers held and subscriptions were solicited, chiefly through the agency of the schools. The response was not very satisfactory, and it is hoped thatl many who may desire to assist in the erection of such a memorial may feel inclined to mark the coming commemoration ceremonies by subscribing towards the cenotaph fund.
