GERMANY’S COMMERCIAL METHODS
THE "YELLOW DOG FUND."
An interesting exposure of Germrua commercial methods has been made by the president of a chemical company manufacturing bromine and other pro ducts not derived, from coal tar, stated the Washington correspondent of the Landon “Morning Post,” writing on February 9. The official appeared before tho Ways and Means Committee of the House of Representotives to ask for » reduction of the duties on his products to prevent German competition. He told the committee that'before tba war he entered the German market for the stile of bromine, and at one time had a good trade there, although competition was keen and profits low. On© .day a German came to his works in Michigan and said to him: “I have come here to tell you to do one of two things. Get out of Germany, or we will put you out of business in the United States. We have in Germany what we call the 'Yellow x)og Fund,’ to which the manufacturer contributes one-half and the Government tile other half.. We have in that fund at the present time 25,000,009 cfollars, and we will put you out of busL in the United States if you do n<r get out of business in Germany. ’ The American laughed, and told him to go home and do his worst, but a few weeks later he told the. committee, that the price of bromir.e in the United States dropped to lea cents below its cost of manufacture in this country. The German has pn.’led the yellow oog s tail.
