IMPERIAL PREFERENCE

MR. MASSEY FORECASTS ANOTHER INSTALMENT.

By Telegraph.—Special Beporter. Hawera, April 7,

"Another instalment of Imperial preference is likely to be included in the Tariff Bill that is to be placed before Parliament next session,” said the Prime Minister, when speaking to the Patea electors this evening. He believed that the encouragement of trade within the Empire was a very imporant factor in strengthening Imperial bonds. The principle of Imperial trade preference had been accepted at last by the British Government, and embodied in legislation passed by the House of Commons. He believed that the principle would be extended, and that he would have proposals to make in this connection when the Tariff Bill was before Parliament later in the year.
