THE “SOCCER” GAME

MEETING OF THE WELLINGTON

ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Wellington Football Association was held last night - ., Mr. A. E. Wells presiding. A meeting of representatives of boys’ clubs was held first to elect a boys’ eub-committee. It was decided to enlarge Iffie committee from five to seven, and the following were elected:—Messrs. G. Pell, "T 1 . Graham, 0. E. Burton, F. Thomas, and Brother Eusebius, and Messrs. P. Banks and R. Henry (from the management committee of the Wellington Association). A discussion took place with regard to the size of balls for use by the boys’ cltihs. Several speakers said that the balls were too big and heavy, and in wet weather the boys were often afmid to head or even kick the ball. It was decided to leave t'h e matter to the sub-committee to report to the association.

The following teams were entered for the various competitions:—Schools competition, Newtown Public School, and Hataitai School (junior). Championship competitions, Petone Club, one senior, one junior, and one fourth-class; Waterside™’ Club, one senior; Diamond Club, senior, junior, third, fourth, fifth and sixth. Six-a-eido tournament, senior, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth. Charity Cup, Watersiders’ Club. A discussion took place on the question of club colours. One member thought that each club should have a distinctive' colour and that it should not bp a case of halves, stripes, or hoops. This view was supported by another member, who mentioned that no other sports bodies—Rugby and hockey, for instance —allowed clubs to have tho same colours. Other members thought that clubs should be allowed to register the same colours go long as they were absolutely distinctive on the field, one being in hoop and Vhe other in halves, for instance. It was moved that each club’e colours should be quite different, but an amendment that the same colours could be registered, ‘ providing they were distinctive on the field, was carried. It was decided to extend the closing dale for nominations for the various championship competitions until next Tuesday. It was resolved that the senior competition should commence on April 23.
