RUMOURED WITHDRAWAL pF THE AVAHINE AND MAORI.
It is rumoured that the Union Company intends withdrawing both the Maori and the -Wahine from the AVel-lington-Lyttelton ferry service duringthe winter months on the score that they do not pay during the off-season. Al hen approached by a Dominion ttee, the local branch of the Union Company stated ..that they had received no official or unofficial advice on the matter from the Dunerim head office. It is presumed that if both vessels draw, as is quite possible, they will br replaced by smaller vessels that can to run more economically*
