BOARD OF TRADE'S REVIEW.
Many letters received, by the Board of Trade from tho various interests concerned (including the public) express appreciation of the board’s impartial work in connection with the building regulations and the control of essential materials From the date of the gazetting (June 24, 1920) to the suspension of the regulations (March 19) the board dealt with more than 3000 applications for permits for buildings other than dwdunghis or farm buildings period, local bodies, which acted xn cooperation. with the Board of Trade, dealt with about 4150 applications for permits for dwellings and farm buildings. In addition to the regular permit business the board received many ln( l u ’ ) rl «’ from persons who wished whether an application was likely to be granted. When the reply indicated that a permit would not be available till the supply of essential matenals warrante it the application was not lodge®. In districts outside of Wellington th board’s control of the distribution of cement ceased on March 19, but an W linston the end did not oome till April ... Ttoni July 1, 1920, to April 2 the quantitv of oement distributed Wer the board’s control was nearly 63,000 tone.
