MR. BROOKFIELD’S DEATH
TOMAYEFF TO BE TRIED ON CHARGE OF MURDER.
Adelaide, April 1
At the inquest on Mr. Brookfield, M.L.A.. who died as tho result of wounds from shots fired by a Russian journalist named Tomayeff on Riverton railway station, Tomayeff reserved his defence, and was committed for trial on a charge of murder. Mounted Constable Woodhead, in his evidence, said that when being escorted to Adelaide accused said: '"You must not forget to tell the Judge I got a hundred pounds to shoot Brookfield.” — Press Assn.
MR*. STOREY’S TRIBUTE. (Roc. April 1, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 31. Referring to Mr. Brookfield’s death, Air. Storey, Premier of New South Wales, who is at- present in London, says that although ho was not a Government supporter, lie (Mr. Storey) feels the loss keenly. Mr. Brookfield’s private life was exemplary.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
