IMPERIAL CABLES
GREAT INCREASE IN BUSINESS DUPLICATION OF SECTION NECESSARY By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. (Rec. March 22, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 21. Mr. Avery, Superintendent of Imperial Cables, lecturing to the Postal and Telegraph Society, eulogised the Pacific service, which was increasing to such a degree that it was necessary to duplicate a considerable section, especially that from Bamfield to Fanning Island, which hampered speedy transmission. Notwithstanding excellent results were achieved. Lost summer’s twenty minutes’ record from the King to the Prince of Wales; giving the result of the Derby, was surpassed during the cricket tour, when the scores were received in the London head office from the Sydney ground within fifteen minutes. The Imperial service embraced tiro Atlantio cables, one of which was leased to the Western Union, subject to resumption when required. The Imperial business was increasing as the result of canvassing customers. Mr. Avery opined that the foundations of a State-owned cable service had been securely laid.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
