FOURTEEN DAYS TN GAOL
PUNISHMENT FOR ASSAULT. Tn the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday. before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., John Hudson Allen appeared on charges of drunkenness, using obscene language, re" fusing ib quit licensed premises when ordered, and assaulting the licensee of the Albion Hotel when the latter tried to eject him. For the police, Sub-Inspector Willis said that, the trouble had arisen when one of the barmaids in the hotel had refused to give the accused, who_ was drunk, another drink. He had “ecoine very objectionable, and a nuisance to others iii the hotel. He used the language complained of while in the bar, and used threatening behaviour when the licensee asked him to Then he struck the licensee. On the charge of drunkenness Allen was fined 55., and the charge of. using obscene language was dismissed. "But you are going to gaol for the asau’t,” remarked the Magistrate. "Beg pardon, sir?” said the accused. On being told for a second time of 'the punishment, he said, with a stutter: "Fourteen days? Thank you. sir.”
