SURF CLUB’S CARNIVAL
RACES AT TK ARO BATHS Saturday's stiff northerly did not make for a large attendance at the swimming carnival, held in the Te Aro Baths during the afternoon, under the auspices of the Lyall Bay Surf and Life-saving Club. Competition in all the events was keen, however, swimmers of both sexes attending in force. Much interest was evinced in the flying squadron race for Walker and Hall s Cup, which was annexed bv the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club. Lyall Bay Surf Club (the holders; being defeated, after a straight-out test of superiority. As was expected, the 100 yards club championship was carried off by C. Claridge, W. M'Gill being the only contestant who snowed serious opposition. The Coltman Cup, for competition among schoolgirls’ teams, changed hands, Clyde Quay decisively defeating allcomers, including Mount Cook (the holders). During the afternoon Mr. W. Hicks, assisted by others, gave an exhibition of fancy diving, and the Lyall Bay team and a squad from H.M.S. Chatham gave an exhibition of water polo. The institute Orchestra contributed a number of musical selections.
