TREATY PAYMENTS TO BE POSTPONED

London, March 18.

Mr. Austen Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced in the House of Commons that Britain, France, Italy, and Japan have informed Austria that they aro prepared to postpone the payments due from Austria under the Treaty of St. Germain, and alstf the payment of the capital and interest of advances made since the armistice, in order to avert starvation in Austria. The League of Nations will determine what fresh gold advances may be made to Austria. The four Allies will also undertake at the forthcoming conference at Portorosa to help to effect an improvement in the economic conditions which are at present prejudicing Central Europe, and will> <also endeavour to assure Austria a continued increase in the coal supply — Reuter. AUSTRIAN DELEGATES IN LONDON NOT GIVEN PLENARY POWERS. (Rec. March 19, 5.5 p.m.) Vienna, March 18.

The Vice-Chancellor lias telegraphed to Dd. Mayer stating that the leareda of parties of the Assembly have decided that delegates in Txmdon are not authorised, without the Assembly’s concurrence, to assume binding obligations encumbering 1 Austria. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
