SPRIG OF SHAMROCK
CAUSE OF DISORDERLY SCENES IN
HOUSE OF COMMONS.
London, March 17.
There were disorderly scenes at question time in the House of Commons. Sir Hamar Greenwood (Chief Secretary for Ireland) appeared with a sprig of shamrock in his buttonhole. Commander Kenworthy shouted:. "Why are you wearing the shamrock?” and Mr. MacVeagh cried: "Take out that shamrock. It’s an insult to Ireland.”
Sir Hamar Greenwood replied that he hoped the beneficent influence of the great Saint would permeate Ireland. There, was continued disorder through members’ refusal to withdraw insulting expressions directed at Sir Hamar Green-wood.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
