A JUVENILE SHOP-BREAKER

In the Juvenile Court on Saturday morning, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. a lad fifteen years of age was charged with breaking by day into a small shop in HAwkeatone Street and 'teaming £2 10s. in money and a pack®; of cigarette«. , ~ , , Chief Detective Ward said the lad was in the locality and happened to see'the proprietress of -the shop leave the premises. He then got inti tho shop through a back window, and stole tho money. When tho owner of the shop returned she found the place had been ransacked. She then remembered that she had seen a lad outeido the premises when she left, and the police were informed. When seen by a constable tno lad admitted being in the premises but maintained that he took only 3s. and the packet of cigarettes. Mr. .1. O’Donovan, who appeared for the lad, pleaded guilty on his behalf, and suggested that the case should be adjourned for six months and the lad placed under the control of Mr. F. S. Shell, the probation officer. He further stated, that the lad was earning wages, and could Le ordered to make restitution. The probation officer had a good word to say for the lad, whose parents, he said were respectable, and the Magistrate agreed to adjourn the case for six months. The lx/y was severely admonished and placed under the control of the probation officer.
