MINISTERS’ SALARIES
BRITISH PREMIER UNDERPAID, London, January 13. A Parliamentary Select Committee, reporting bn the salaries of Ministers, quotes Mr. Lloyd George’s declaration that, in the present conditions of national finance, he is unable to accept an increase, and recommended that no increase should be made at present. Mr. Asquith gave evidence that the Prime Minister was underpaid. He was poorer after he had held office than before. The occupation of 10 Downing Street was of mixed advantage. The house certainly did not add to the sweets or spoils of office. It was impossible properly to discharge the Prime Ministership without private means.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. - - -
