It was at first believed that the wicket was not likely to recover before Friday. Later reports indicate that there are prospects of a. good wicket and fine weat'lier. Critics generally agree thnt Douglas has made a good selection, though it is uncertain whether tho selection is final or dependent on the weather outlook on Friday morning. The newspaper prophets aro cautious, admitting that Australia is more formidable t'han was believed a month ago. It is. pointed out that the Australians are practically tailless as regards tho batting, though the bowling is more uncertain; whereas England appears to be more formidable in howling, but may tail away' in battiug.
