BOISTEROUS WEATHER

HEAVY GALE AT AUCKLAND,

Auckland, December 16. The boisterous weather which was experienced yesterday continued with increased violenco throughout last night. This morning iti abaled a little, but tho wind still blow with unpleasant force. Some little difficulty was experienced by .passengers in boating tho ferry boats this morning, but no accidents occurred. . During the night a number of small craft were submerged at various anchorages, and this morning their owners were bus)- endeavouring to refloai them. A yacht broke away from its moorings at Campbell's Point, but was recovered near the Railway Wharf, and secured to the steamer 'Kanna; which was anchored at the wharf. A motor launch was blown on the rocka at Cheltenham bench. A bollard on the Railway Wharf, round which iSie bow ropes of the six-masted barquentino* E. R. Sterling was secured, gave way last ovening under tho strain, The vessel swung out towards the Northern Steamship Company's wharf, to which she was finally anchored. The blow also 6ank some of the punts carrying pipes U6cd in connection with tho sucilion dredge, now working at the Mechanics' Bay reclamation, and punts and pipes were all sunk. Owing to the Beverlty of the galo a number of. coastal sailing fixtures had to be postponed, while the Kauri, which put out ihito the stream last night, preparatory to her departure for 'Newcastle, wlks not able to leave until this morning. The velocity of. tho north-easterly galo for the twenty-four hours ended at 9 o'clock this morning was 560 miles. This is 410 miles above tho average daily velocity of 150 miles for the year. The gale, while it blew with such force here, was not felt south of Auckland.
