THE CONAN DOYLE LECTURES
To-night Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Trill give his first lecture in New Zealand at the Auckland Town Hall. It is stated that when the 'box plans opened in Auckland last Thursday morning people had been waiting: for hours' to book seats, and heavy booking went on all day until almost the entire hall was reserved. In Melbourne recently Sir Arthur Conan Doylo, writing of charlatans in the spiritualistic world, said: "Much of the opposition with ■ which we are meeting arises from misunderstanding. Our opponents are continually attacking men of itraw and Imagine thoy are attacking us. As a matter of fact, vary often when they inveigh against false mediums they use our own words. There is no one who suffers so much from false mediums as we do. There are none more anxious to get rid of these wretched camp followers who trade upon a sacred thing." On Friday next Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, accompanied by Mr. Carlyle Smythe. will arrive in Wellington, whoro he will deliver lectures on Saturday and Monday evenings at the Town Hall. Tho box plans for these will be opened this morning at the Bristol at 9 o'clock.
