THE TARIFF
DEPAIITMENTAL COMMITTEE TO TAKE EVIDENCE. •
Tt is announced that in preparation for the revision of tho tariff by Parliament next session, a committee of officers of the Customs Department will commence early in the New Year to .hear representations from organisations and fniiividuals. Where there is an onnmsation representing the trade or commercial interest concerned, it is preferred that representations should made through that Applications to be heard will be received by the Comptroller of Customs up to February 7, and on February 8 the committee will commence to hear evidence in the Wellington district. , It is desired to hear all evidence from the district between February 8 and February 28. and afterwards the committee will visit ths othor main centres. It is expected that the hearing "of evidence will occupy the committee for several months, and then time will have to be given to the preparation of the various- schedules for sulimtoion to Cabinet and Parliament. Altogether it will be fortunate if the committee is able to finish its task before Parliament assembles in-Juno.
