The Rev. S. J. Handover, formerly assistant curate at St. Peter's Church,' Wellington, is now holding chaplaincies at Magdalen College and at Christ Church, Oxford. Ho is also priest in charge of St. Alban's, Cowley, St. John, Oxford.

The death is announced, by a Press Association message from Auckland, of the Jtcv. J. K. Burgin, vicar of St. Peter's Church, Onehunga, the death occurring airly yesterday morning. The reverend gentleman, it is fitatcd, had attended a confirmation service and choir practice on Wednesday night, being then in apparently good health. The late Mr. Burgin was one of New Zealand's most popular chaplains during the war, having served in the third and fourth Rifle Brigades in Egypt and on tho Somme. He was gassed in tho first attack on the Somme in 191G, and was later invalided homo. Mr. Ilurgin was an enthusiastic member of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, and associated himself in all its activities. Ho was always known in Auckland as Padre Burgin, and his uniform, with its row of medal ribands, was well known at all soldier gatherings.

Contain T. Davis, Quartermaster of the sth (Wellington) Regiment, was presented at the parade, of the Regiment this week with the twenty years' officers' decoration. Captain Davis joined the regiment as n bugler in 186", and rose to colour-sergeant in IS3O, and acted as adjutant to the regiment during the Great War. The decoration »as conferred on Captain Davis by LieutenantColonel R. St. .T. Beere, D.5.0., Coast Defence Commander, and tho recipientwas given an enthusiastic receptiou by the regiment.

Mr. H. W. Brown, who has been touring in Scotland, will return to Now Zealand by the P. and 0. steamer Nnldera, due to leave London on December 10.

Messrs. Reginald If. George and Walter C. Weston have been appointed trustees of tho New Plymouth Savings Bank.

Mr. and Mrs. Hirschbien, of New York, who are keenly interested in the Zionist movement, are at present visitors to Wellington.

Mr. John Harrington, managing dircctor of Harrington's, Ltd., is visiting Wellington.
