POLICE FORCE CHANGES

PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS A COMPREHENSIVE LIST :lie Minister of Justice announces that the following changes and promotions in (he Police Forco are proposed:— _ Tho Superintendent at Wellington to navo his jurisdiction extended (for certain purposes), to include' also the dietricts of A'upier, Pa'jmorston North, Wanganui, and A'ew Plymouth. Tho Superintendent at Auckland to have his jurisdiction similarly extended (o include also the districts of Whangarei, Hamilton, and Gisborne. The Superintendent at Christchurch to liavo his jurisdiction extended to include also tho Tiinaru and Greymouth districts.

Tho Superintendent at Dunedin to have his jurisdiction extended to include also tho invercargill district.

These arrangements will not in any way limit tho duties and responsibilities of the officers in charge of these districts, hut will rnthc-r extend the supervision and duties of' the four Superintendents, who up to this time have acted only as officers in charge of their own areas. It is proposed to make the following promotions:— Sub-Inspector Dt\w; Cliristcliurcli, to bo promoted to the rank of - inspector in charge of the Christchurch district, under the immediate supervision of the Superintendent. ,i Sub-Inspe;tor Mathcson, now subinspector at Dunedin, to be promoted to the rank of inspector, and take charge of tlie Grey month district on January 1, in succession, to Inspector Cruickshank, who is taking his leave prior to > retirement on superannuation. Sub-lusp?ctor. Wohlnjaun, of Auckland, to be promoted to inspector and tako up duties of Commissioner of Police at Samoa. On the completion of Jus term there he will return to New Zealand and take his pluco automatically in the Dominion Force.

Sub-Inspector Hutton, of New Plymouth, promoted to inspector in charge Df new district, with headquarters at NewPlymouth, this new district to consist of a number of stations to bo t.iktoj off tho remote parts of tho Wanganui district. Sub-Inspector- Emerson, "Wellington, to ba promoted to inspector, and transferred to Wlmngarei, to take chnrgo of the North Auckland district, vacant since the death of Inspector Mullaney. Sub-Inspector Cassells, Gisborne, to be promoted to inspector, to take chnrgo of newiv-creuted district, headquarters at Gisborne. This new district will include the present sub-district of gisborne and parts of the Napier and Hamilton dis-Senior-Sergcant Bales (Auckland), to be promoted to the rank of sub-inspector and take up the position vacnted by bubInspector Wolilinann at Auckland. Senior-Sergeant Willis, now at tho Weilington Central Station, to be promoted sub-inspector, ■ to take tho position vacated bv Sub-Inspector Emerson. Senior-Sergeant Murray, of DunecUn, to be promoted sub-inspector at Dunedui, to take the placo ot Sub-Inspector MatheMacuauiara, of the Wellington South station, to temporarily fill the vacant position of senior-sergeant at the Central Station, Wellington. Sergeant Lewin, of Gore, to be promoted senior sergeant, and transferred to Dunedin, to take up the position now held% Senior-Sergeant Murray. Dtft'ictive-Sergea nt Enwle, of Greymouth to be promoted senior sergeant, (uniform branch); to the, chief police station at Auckland, to take over the duties of Senioi'rSergeant Eales.
