THE NEW MAGISTERIAL APPOINTMENT

MB. J. H. SALMON CONGRATULATED. Mr. j. H. Salmon (Registrar of tho Arbitration Court) was yesterday congratulated by the representatives of the employers'and the employees, and by the President) of the Court (Mr. .Tustico Stringer) upon his appointment to tho Magisterial bench. Mr. W. Pryor (secretary of the Employers' Federation) said, that on behalf of the employers he wished to congratulate Mr. Salmon on tho honourable position ib which he had been appointed. They owed 1 Mr. Salmon a great debt of gratitude for the assistance that he had been ready to offer at all tiroes. Mr. Salmon's departure would mean the loss of a valued friend. His appointment to tlie Bench was one of tho best appointments that had been made for a long time. . ~ Jlr. M. .T. Reardon, representing tho workers' unions, said that tho employees also desired to congratulate Mr. Salmon and to thank him for many acts of kindness and much good advice. Mr. salmon was being given a grenr. opportunity at a time of life when he was well ablo to take full advantage of it. The speaker felt silro that Mr. Salmon would be an ornament to the Bench. Mr. Justice Stringer said that he and tJio otlior members of the Court wished to express their pleasure at Mr. Salmon s elevation to the Bench, and their regret at tho loss of his services in the Arbitration Court. The loss of the Arbitration Court would bo the gain of the Magisterial Beech. Mr. Salmon had good knowledgo of law, a judicial temperament, and a, great capacity for taking pains. Ho would certainly justify his promotion. Mr. Salmon thanked tho speakers for tlioir expressions of approval ond good will. Tho Years of his service in the Arbitration Court under Mr. Justico Stringer, ho said, lie regarded not only as having been a privilege, but n liberal education.
