GOLD MINES DISPUTE
"attitude of eeefton miners,
Telegraphed advice was received by Mr. W. Pryor, secretary to the Employers' Federation, on Saturday, to the effect that the miners employed in the quartz mines at Keeftou, who are now out on strike, decline to return to work unless they ar» paid wages for time off. Tho assumption is that the miners base their action on the recent report of the Goldfields and Mines Committee, which, in returning the new.Mining Amendment Dill to the Douse of Representatives, added tlvs following recommendation:"That in view of the fact that the companies are responsible for the failure to carry out the provisions of section i, sub-section 2,' of the Mining ■ Amendment Act, 1919 (requiring the. use of water drills), the committee is of that the mine owners should pay the miners, wag*, for the time they have been idle in cases where the miners censed work for the purpose of securing compliance withl the requirements of tho Act.
