EXCHANGE OF TEACHERS
A SCHEME IN OPERATION
CANADIAN TEACHERS IN NEW
ZEALAND
The provision of facilities for the exchange of teachers between the different countries of the Empire was' urged in a question which Mr. E. Newman (Mi.uawatu) asked the Minister of Education in the House of Keprosentatives yesterday afternoon.
ill'. Parr said that the Education Department was keenly alive to tho lienaiits of such a system. It. was proposed to evolve a system for the exchange of teachers between New Zealand and Canada, and also other parts of the Empire. The suggestion was to ielcct e.uli year a small number, say six, teachers, who would go abroad, and to receive m their place an equal number •.•"no wtult: tv«rk in this country. The Department, moreover, would pay half 'the passive moiuy for teachers wishing to f:o abroad to study the methods cf instruction in ether countries. It was necessary to fee, of course, that they did not go merely for a holiday. Salary for two nr. Uuee months would also be paid, probably in full. The Auckland Education Board, added Mr. Parr, had already started something of the kind. Two Canadian teachers Lad come' from A r ancouver, while two from Auckland had gone over tij woik f"r n time in Canada. The Department recognised that this sort, of t.lung was a step .in the right direction, likely to be productive of good to the tcachers Mid .the children. It-would also make for tlio consolidation of the Empire. .<
