Horowhcnua fUsjrfiefc was held at Levin on Saturday tor" tEe purpose of discussin? the formation of a hydroelectric board. Mr. Birka (Chiefi Government Engineer) 6tated that the Department suggested that the Horowhcnua Power Board District 6hould include Levin. Shannon. Foxton Borough, Otaki Town Board. Horowlicmia County and the. northern part of tha Hutt County, so as to bring in Paeknkariki. The population of tlicse was 11.531, and the horse-power reouired was 30. It wn9 pointed out that Manawatu County wanted a separate license to distribute electricity, but the Government suggested that it should join up with another district. This county lias so fnr not decided which course it shall follow in the event cf a separate license being refused.
A committee was sot up consisting of representatives from all the local bodies mentioned to go further into the matter, end was empowered, \if a district is agreed upon, to proceed with the preliminaries in connection with an election of a power board.
A resolution was passed, protesting 1 against the provision imopsed bv tho Government that a netition of 25 per cent, of tho ratopavers should bo obtained before a board could bo formed. It was contended that_ the neonle were unanimous for eleetricitv. .and an Order-in-Council. on aunlieatian bv local bodies. 6hould bo sufficient. ,
