ADVANCED PRICE OF BRICKS
PROPOSED MUNICIPAL MANUFACTURE. The City Engineer reported to tho City Council lust night that as from September 13 the price of ordinary building bricks had advanced to ,C 5 10s. per thousand, less 2J per cent, monthly terms. In connection with this subject two samplo bricks mado by an English firm from Town Belt clay (taken from land near John Street) woro exhibited on the council table, and were favourably commented on. Iho English maohine-made bricks were exhibited alongside ono from a local brickworks, and the comparison was oil m favour of tho former • The council dewtled that Counujlor Bennett bo associated with tho City Engineer in connection with the report to bo furnished on the establishment of a brickmaking plant for the supply of bricks for the council's housing scheme. Councillor Bennett said that the bricks nmde in England from Wellington clayappeared in ft most favourable light compared with local bricks. The imported bricks were equal to tho local pressed bricks, which in Wellington cosb ,fil2 per thousand.
