IMPERIAL CONFERENCE
NOT TO BE HELD IN CANADA NEXT YEAR PERPETUATION OF PREMIERS' GATHERING MOOTED
(By TfllecrnDhT-Presa Association-OoDyrleht (Bee. September 15, 7.10 p.m.)
London, September 14.
Tho Australian and New Zealand Press Association learns authoritatively that the Imperial Conference will not be held in Canada in 1921. Tho Colonial Office is desirous of perpetuating a Premiers' Conference, similar to the Imperial War Cabinet, comprising Prime Ministers •only, independently of the ordinary Imperial Conference, comprising other Ministers. The latter might meet in the Dominions successively, but the Premiers' Conference is only possible in London, because the British . Premier cannot, absent himself from 'Europe. Some time ago it was proposed to hold a conference in Canada, preliminary to the Premiere' Conference- in London, but the idea was abandoned owing to lack of unanimity among the Dominions. Doubts have now arisen whether any conference whatever will be held in -i 921. Some of tho Dominions are of opinion that constitutional proposals regarding inter-Imperial relations should be formulated bv the Colonial Office and discussed by the Dominions' Parliament and Press before submission to tho Imperial Conference. It is understood that tho Colonial Office prefers that the Dominions should formulate their own proposals. Meanwhile it is suggested' tentatively that the conference' should meet in London in June.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
