PETONE SPORTS BODIES
PROWESS TO BE RECOGNISED BY CITIZENS. With a view to deciding upon a means by which the successes of tho football club and kindred sports bodies of Petone this season could bo suitably recognised, a public meeting was held in tho Petone Council Chambers on Tuesday. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewnn) presided over a moderate attendance of citizens. Tho chairman said that there was a general feeling that the public should in some suitable way recognise the doings of the football club tlhis year. Ho understood that other local sports bodies— the cricket, rowing and bowling clubshad been very successful during the year. The football club had brought honour to tho citfizens; now it was the citizens' dntyto honour the players. The general idea- was that the -recognition should tako the form of a complimentary social, to which the heads of the various sporiis bodies in Wellington would be invited. Mr. E. Tovey saM that the men had won tho respect and esteem of all and had set a splendid example to the rising generatJoD.
Mr. I!, Price moved that those present form themselves into a working committ«a with power fo ndd to their number, Mr. Duncan seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. . Afiter somo discussion r.t was decided that the recognition take the form of a social fathering:, to be held about a forti ight hence.
