ZIONISM AND ANGLO-ISRAEL
Sir, To those who were privileged to listen to the impressive address of that magnificent exponent of Zionism. Mr. Israel Cohen, 8.A.. it must havo appealed as a striking feature to see tho chairman supported by His Excellency tho Acting-Governor-General.and tho Bight Hon. the Prime Minister, both of whom contributed particularly interesting speeches. To myself, however, the outstanding and most pleasing feature was tho Prime; Minister's reference to the Anglo-Israel theory. For many years, amid ridicule and satire, tho belief that the British people are direct descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes has been steadily gainintr ground, and at present there are very many firm adherents in this Dominion. If Scripture means anything tangible, what other meaning can be ascribed to the prophecies of Ezelriel. especially those embodied in chapter xxxvi, 21-22? _ If clergymen searched the. Scriptures more and discoursed more upon the Old Testament, instead of imparting .puerile platitudes and meaningless metaphors, there would bo more believers and less cause to complain of the failure of Christianity. It is a remarkable fact that the Bible —a collection of many books in one—was written by degrees and by _ different persons extending over a period of sixteen hundred years, but, though its authors were inspired leader?, prophets, priests, and kings, all were Israelites. Yet tho. British people have been mainly, if not exclusively, instrumental in spreading the knowledee of the sacred Book into .every available land. If the British be not the Lost Ten Tribes, of what interest oan the Biblo be to the British people ?
In conclusion,, may I be allowed to mention (as it is not generally known) that there is in the Wellington Municipal Library a facsimile copy of a genealogical tree accepted by Her late Majesty Queen Victoria, tracing the descent of tho present Royal Family of Great Britain from King David. Before casting ridiculo on this remarkable document, one should peruse it and give it due consideration. t Bidicule results in nothing tangible— n jackals can laugh—but research often Tesnlts in unexpected discoveries.—l am, etc., PEECIVAL JR- WADDY. Wellington, September (I. 1920.
