"PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS"

Sir,—The two letters on the above subject which havo appeared in The Dominion written by unionists who evidently don't believo in this preference, but who wish to become free men, and your comments on the same subject in support of their contention, together with the remarks of the Hon. Mr. MacGregor in the Upper House, should bo convincing testimony of a widespread feeling against presently unionism, and against preference in particular. . As one who has followed thoso erratic changes in our laws with keen interest I fully endorse all that has appeared in condemnation of such law. When we have in effect an insignificant body ot men who declare that "we won t work, and you shan't," then there is an end to tho liberty of the subject.. Ihe ballot taken by the wharf labourers, when COO voted for freedom as against 400 who opposed them, should convmco the most sceptical. The community at largo vould benefit by preference being swspt into oblivion. Let us have free- men !- I am. etc.. , OBSERVER.
