R.S.A. AND ASIATICS
Sir.-iIT. M'Kenzie, in a resolution which he moved at a recent meeting of the R.S.A. regarding the influx , of Asiatics. seemß to be rather hazy m his ideas regarding coloured people, as he confused colour with race. When ho speaks of preserving the purity ot tho race ho does not seem to undarstand that the Indians belong to the same raco, viz., the Aryan, as onrsolves. They are the Aryans of tho East, we-are tho Aryans of t'ie West. ■ The Chinese and negroes-are not Aryans; therefore, should not be classed with Indians. Tho Indians, being British subjects, have been, taught the. slogan that wherever the Flag flies there is freedom. According to-this resolution freedom is only to be for British subjects whose skin is white. With regard to allowing only Indians who have seen military service to come here perhaps the U.S.A. ere not aware that Indians were not allowed to volunteer for the period of the war, therefore, they are not responsible that more of them have not feen active service. Such resolutions and statements can only do harm by irritating j the Indian people. We havo more than | enough of trouble everywhere at present, | without manufacturing it by creating reeentnient in-the minds of other subjects of the Empire, because their skin happens to be darker than our own.—l am, etc., JANE DONALDSON, Local Sec, N.Z. &I. League. August 6, 1920.
