COLLEGE GOVERNORS

. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the governors of the Wellington College and the Girls" College was held in Mr. C. P. Powlea's office yesterday "morning. Mr, W. F. Ward (chairman) presided. The chairman announced the election of two now college governors, and welcomed Messrs. Darroch and Denton to the board table. A letter was received from Miss M. M'Lean, principal of the Girls' College, suggesting that the fees in connection with the junior department should not be raised until next year. It was admitted that this department was not paying. TJie governors had decided that it should pay its own way. Mr. R. Darroch said that a gentleman of his acquaintance bad informed him that lie was unable to get his boy into Wellington College. If there was & junior department at the Girls' College, whv should there not be one at tho Boys College? < The chairman said the board was discouraging a junior department. at the Girls' College. Mr, T. Forsyth said there were secondary and primary schools. If primary education were needed there wera the State schools. * When a member asked who was goin& to pay th,e difference (beitwcen the fees received and the total cast of the department), Mr. Forsyth said that they would leave that to the chairman, a prospective, debt which the chairman smilingly refused to shoulder. A letter was received from an insurance company offering certain terms on ■which it would insure tlie board against claims for accident among the pupils. Tho board commissioned tho chairman to make further inquiries into the matter. An extension of five years was granted Mr. T. Brierly from building in College Street. A letter was received from Mr. i J . M. Parr, of Palmerston North, offering «£35 per annum for ten years for a-four-acre block of college land in Palmerston North. Mr. Parr had been paying 2s. Gd. per week rental in the past. Further inquiries are to be made as to the rental value of the property before an answer is given the present holder. In response 'to a written request from Miss M'Lean, the board.made a grant of £25 to the Girls' Collego library.
