AMERICAN RAILROADS
HIGHER FREIGHTS TO MEET INCREASED WAGES. Washington, July 21. Mr. D. T. Whiter, representing four hundred railroads, announces that they will need an immediate increase of 18 per cent, in freight rates to meet the wage addition'of six hundred million dollars for 1800 thousand workers on tlio pay-roll, which is now 3,344,000,000 dollars. The railroads have already made plans to pass the burden on io the con-sumer—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
