[By tho death of Mrs. Patrick Canipboll, England loses one of +110 foremost of her dramatic actresses. . Mrs.'Campbell had entrenched herself in the good graces of London audiences by many re- | markable performances, notably as the original Paula in "The Second jfrs. Tanqjieray," in the name part of "The Notorious Jfrs. Ebbsmith," and other Pinoro plays of a quarter of a century ago. Sho went on the stage by a lucky chance through being connected in a -humble way with an amateur dramatic club called "The Anomalies." toured with Green's Company in 18SS; with Bandmann Palmer in 1883, and with Ben Greet in 1890-91. She then secured a London engagement at the Adelphi, and in 1893 commonccd her long and successful engagement at St. James's Theatre, where tho Pinero plays mentioned were first produced with great success. Only a few monltlis ago she figured in a revival in London of G. B. Shaw's play "Pygmalion." Her first husband was Patrick Camnbell (who was killed in tho South African AVar), and in 1911 somewhat, of a sensation was caused by her msuriagc to George Frederick C'orn-wallis-West. W. W.
