Holland) laid before the conference tho proposal of tho Government to increase the salary to ,£4OO free of income tax, and declared that tlu Labour members would be controlled by the decision of tho conferonce, ' After considerable, discussion, in th* course of which' it was pointed out that in some instances Labour members had to pay a portion of their travelling expenses, and that the increased cost oE living was a large item, it was unanimously agreed to support the proposal of the Labour members to increase tho salary of members of Parliament to XSOO, members to pay income tax and superannuation levies.
