Many persons who arc anxious to have electric lighting installed in their homes have lately been complaining to th« municipal authorities about delay in the making of connections. TUo Mayor mado a brief statement on tho matter to last night's nieetingof the City Council. Mr. Luke said ho had heard pcoplo protest that 6omo of tho big buildings in the city—theatres, hotels, and big business establishments—had superfluous lighting. The fact of the matter was that tho lighting department had ou absolutely free hand in regard to granting connections, and it always dealt first with the application (hat camo in first. It would be inipossiblo for the council itself to consider the applications. Persons who thought that the elimination of "superfluous lighting" in ono part of the town would enable them to get more lighting in another part were mistaken in their conclusions, Councillor Chapman asked whether it was not a fact that all requirement! could probably bo met within twelve months.
